New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS) Defence Minister A.K. Antony Monday said the government has taken serious note of clandestine activities of some Chinese nationals in India and the central agencies were conducting probes to get to the truth.

‘The central agencies are inquiring into the details (of alleged Chinese spies) and the government is taking the issue seriously. We are trying to find out the details and the truth,’ Antony told reporters after a defence ministry event here.

India had caught at least four people with links to China in the recent weeks and investigating agencies are interrogating them.

Among those being probed is the 17th Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje, a Tibetan spiritual leader based in Dharmashala, Himachal Pradesh, on a similar suspicion.

Antony also expressed concern over the political unrest in Egypt, especially the condition of the Indians living there under the present circumstances.

‘The government is concerned about the developments there (in Egypt) and the safety of Indians,’ he said, adding that the external affairs ministry and the civil aviation ministry were in constant touch with them and have made all necessary arrangements to bring them back home.

‘Both the ministries are monitoring the situation. They will take whatever action needed for the safety of Indians there,’ he added.

In anti-government protests in Egypt in the last one week, over 100 people lost their lives and another 1,000 were injured. India sent an Air India flight to Cairo on Sunday to bring about 300 Indians back home.
