New Delhi, Feb 19 (Inditop.com) Parts of north India, including the capital, witnessed a dip in the mercury levels Friday, bringing the chill back to the city, Met official said here.
In Delhi, the minimum temperature recorded early Friday was at 8.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below average for this time of the year.
Similarly, the maximum temperature for the day was one degree below average at 24 degrees Celsius.
B.P. Yadav, director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), said: “There is a drop in temperature in parts of north India because of the north westerly winds. But you can’t call it a cold wave.”
In Jammu and Kashmir’s capital Srinagar, the minimum temperature Friday was minus 2.6 degrees Ceslius.
Pahalgam was the coldest place in the valley with a low of minus 6.2 degrees Celsius followed by Kupwara in north Kashmir at minus five degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, the temperatures similarly dipped – in some places by as much as three degrees below the average.
The Met department has forecasted a slight rise in temperature for the capital Saturday.
The minimum and the maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 10 and 25 degrees Celsius in Delhi.
