Lucknow, Aug 28 (IANS) Three men involved in the manufacturing and supply of fake currency notes to various states in the country were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district, police said Saturday.
The three men, in the age group of 30-35, were arrested Friday evening from a hideout in the Kurebhar area, some 150 km from here.
Computers, scanners, ink and high quality blank paper used in manufacturing the fake notes were recovered from the hideout.
While freshly manufactured notes with a notional value of Rs.50,000 were seized from them, notes worth the same amount were also recovered in the process of being printed.
‘The three were nabbed in a joint operation carried out by the police and the sleuths of the Special Operations Group (SOG),’ police inspector Dheeraj Kumar told reporters in Sultanpur.
‘Preliminary investigations reveal they were involved in the illegal trade for several years and used to supply fake notes to various states like Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand,’ he added.
According to the police, the accused used to take Rs.50,000 in lieu of every consignment of fake notes worth Rs.2 lakh.
