New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) Three people were arrested for cheating a man of Rs.45 lakh while facilitating a property purchase in the capital, police said Friday.

‘Karan Rajput, 58, Ramesh Chander Kalra, 59 and Balbir Singh Nagar, 44, all residents of south Delhi were held Thursday from their homes,’ said a senior police officer.

They were arrested on a complaint filed by Pradeep Kumar Samanta who alleged that four people — Rajput, Kalra, Nagar and Sanjeev — induced him to purchase a property in Safdarjung Enclave and cheated him of Rs.45 lakh.

‘Property dealer Nagar, who is also his neighbour, induced him to purchase a property and introduced him to builders Rajput and Kalra,’ said the officer.

The three men, along with broker Sanjeev, offered the house for Rs.1.15 crore and convinced Samanta, who did not have money to buy it, that they will help him financially to clinch the deal.

‘An agreement was signed and Samanta gave Rs.20 lakh on the same day and four months later gave Rs.25 lakh after taking loans,’ said the officer.

Police said the accused then started avoiding Samanta and later told him that the house had been sold to someone else.

During interrogation, Nagar told police they had sold the house to another person for Rs.70 lakh.

‘They sold the property to two people simultaneously,’ said the officer.
