New Delhi, Jan 25 (IANS) Three Delhi Police officials were suspended for leaving a body unattended in a morgue for six months and not bothering to inform the dead person’s kin, police said Wednesday.

A body of a 36-year-old man, Saroj Poddar was left unattended at a hospital mortuary in west Delhi for the past six months. The post-mortem was also not carried out.
“Three police officials, Assistant Sub Inspectors at Nihal Vihar Police Station Ramesh Chand and Sharda Devi and Head Constable at Uttam Nagar Police Station Anirudh Tyagi were suspended for this act,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) V. Renganathan.
Sarita Poddar, the wife of Saroj, registered a complaint at the Uttam Nagar Police Station on Aug 2, 2011 for her missing husband.
After two days, Saroj was found in an unconscious state at the Nihal Vihar Police Station and died on Aug 18 at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Harinagar.
The police, however, never contacted Sarita.
Sarita frequently visited the Uttam Nagar Police Station to enquire about her husband. She was finally informed about her husband’s death on Jan 23.
