Srinagar, Sep 2 (IANS) A separatist guerrilla was killed Friday as government forces took on militants in a forest in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, an army spokesperson said.

Troops of the 30 Rashtriya Rifles engaged the militants at the Wadanwalla forest of Kupwara district, 110 km from here, leading to one of the guerrillas being killed, Lieutenant Colonel J.S. Brar said.

?The gunfight is still on. It is premature to say whether the group of terrorists engaged by the RR had recently infiltrated into the Valley from across the Line of Control or not. The area is definitely a far off one,? Brar told IANS.

He said the gunfight started at 8.30 p.m. last evening when the troops challenged a group of guerrillas in Wadanwalla following specific information about their movements in the area.

?The identity of the slain terrorist can only be identified after the gunfight ends,? the official added.
