Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 1 (IANS) Two men were arrested with a cache of cartridges of country-made pistols in this Uttar Pradesh city Saturday, police said.
The two men were nabbed from Transport Nagar, following a joint operation carried out by special operation group (SOG) and district police.
‘As many as 490 cartridges have been seized from the two men, who are natives of Uttar Pradesh,’ Police Inspector Umesh Kant told reporters in Meerut, some 450 km from Lucknow.
‘Preliminary investigations indicate they used to supply the illegal cartridges to several of their clients in western Uttar Pradesh,’ he said.
The police official ruled out the possibility of their involvement in supplying cartridges to Maoists.
According to police sources, the duo used to get supply of illegal cartridges from Haider in Moradabad, and later sold them in Saharanpur, Baghpat, Meerut and other towns in western Uttar Pradesh.
