Phagwara (Punjab), May 2 (IANS) At least two soldiers were killed when a tank fell into a ditch during an army exercise near this industrial town in Punjab, police said Wednesday.
R. Anandan, a subedar from Tamil Nadu, and Mohammed Sayem, a havildar from Uttar Pradesh, died on the spot. The victims belonged to the Jammu-based 46th Armed Unit.
The incident took place Tuesday night during the exercises between Nasirabad and Malikpur villages near Phagwara, 130 km from Chandigarh, police official Ashok Kumar said.
The tank driver, Brajesh Kumar, survived the accident as he was able to jump out.
The bodies of the victims were handed over to the army authorities after post-mortem.
