New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS) Two people were killed in a road accident in east Delhi Wednesday morning when a truck rammed into their vehicle from behind, police said.

The incident took place around 9.30 a.m. Wednesday in the Geeta Colony area of east Delhi. The deceased have been identified as Rahul, 20, a resident of Ashok Nagar, and Moolchand, 35, a resident of Mandawali.

‘Rahul and Moolchand, both drivers by profession, were returning from Ashram area where their Tata 407 vehicle had developed some technical fault. They towed their vehicle with another vehicle with the help of a rope. Near the Geeta Colony charnel ground, the rope got detached. They were retying the rope when a speeding truck hit their vehicle from behind, critically injuring them,’ added a senior police official. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

The erring driver fled from the spot after abandoning his truck. The truck has been impounded and a hunt is on to nab the errant driver. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against him.
