New Delhi, April 7 (Inditop.com) Condemning Tuesday’s Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh in which 76 security personnel were killed, The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Wednesday said any movement that resorts to violence loses its legitimacy.
“The NHRC is of the firm view that any movement or action in the name of struggle for the rights of the citizens loses its legitimacy the moment it resorts to violence which is the anti-thesis of protection of human rights,” a statement by the commission said.
The massacre by the left wing guerrillas was the worst attack since the Maoist rebellion began 43 years ago.
“The commission accords paramountcy to the protection of the human rights of all the citizens in the country. It is expected that the state will take note of the sacrifices made by the personnel of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and police in maintaining the rule of law and creating an environment of peace and security for all,” the statement said.
“It needs no emphasis that the aggrieved family would be suitably compensated,” it added.
