Bhubaneswar, April 16 (Inditop.com) A 24-year-old woman gave birth to naturally-born quadruplets – a rare event occurring once in 73,000 births – in a private hospital here early Friday, a doctor said.
Sasmita Moharana, a resident of Gobandia village in Cuttack district, was admitted at the Vivekananda Hospital April 6 after complaining of difficulty in breathing and labour pains because of her over-extended abdomen.
“She delivered four babies one after another within one and half hour,” gynaecologist Shikha Singh told Inditop adding that it was the woman’s first delivery.
“Three of the babies born to the woman are girls and weighed about one kilogram each and the fourth – a boy – weighed 1.1 kg. In delivery sequence, the boy was third,” she said.
“The first baby was born at about 1 a.m. and the second was born about 20 minutes later. All the babies were born within one and half hour,” she said
The quadruplets and mother all are in good condition but they are in the intensive care unit.
