Lucknow, Aug 24 (IANS) A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district killed her two small sons before committing suicide allegedly over a marital dispute, police said Tuesday.
The charred bodies of Neelam, 28, and her two sons Raj, 4, and Shiva, 2, were recovered late Monday evening from their home in the Indrapur area in Varanasi, some 300 km from here.
‘Preliminary investigations reveal the woman had heated arguments with her husband before the incident took place,’ Superintendent of Police Vijay Bhushan told reporters in Varanasi.
‘It appears the woman first set her two sons afire and later herself. The three bodies were recovered from the bathroom,’ he added.
According to locals, Neelam’s husband Prakash had asked her to leave his place after having arguments with her Monday afternoon.
Locals told the police that Prakash often used to return home after work in an inebriated state and beat Neelam and his two children.
