New Delhi, July 23 (IANS) With just 71 days for the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, the Delhi government has asked the civic agencies to work through the nights and hire 400-500 more labourers to complete their work before the deadline.

‘The government has received the required permission from the police to work during the nights. This would be beneficial as traffic in the daytime hinders the Games projects,’ Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters after a review meeting with the agencies for the Games.

The officials from the Public Works Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Jal Board took part in the meeting. Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta was also present.

‘All the agencies were asked to work very hard and work to ensure that they meet the deadlines set for them,’ said a senior official, who was part of the meting.

Meanwhile, 400-500 labourers from the irrigation and flood control department and horticulture department will be asked to work for the touch-up and maintenance works. This was decided at a meeting chaired by PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chouhan Friday.

‘The extra work force will be paid an allowance on a daily basis,’ Chouhan told IANS.
