Cape Town, April 23 (Inditop) Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist Wednesday said that talented Rohit Sharma is not only a class player but also a captain in the making.
Lauding Sharma’s strokeful innings of 52, the former Australian great described him as a “class act” after Deccan Chargers beat Bangalore Royal Challengers by 24 runs to register their second successive Indian Premier League victory.
“He has done pretty well for India in Twenty20 and One-day cricket. He is a class act. He has taken the role of vice captaincy very seriously and wants to be a leader,” Gilchrist said.
Sharma hit five sixes, inclduing three off one Anil Kumble over in his 32-ball 50. He added 61 runs off 31 balls with Gilchrist, who scored a blazing 71 off 45 balls, to carry Deccan Chargers to 184, the highest total in the tournament so far.
“We have got a good start to the tournament. I am happy that the boys have been able to put the work ethics on the field that we have been practising in the training. But it is still early days and we have to keep going like this,” said Gilchrist.
Gilchrist, who batted like his old self, destroying the attack, said it was one of those days when things just “fall in place.”
“It’s something that does not happen everyday. Once you get the start, it gets you going. It was one of those overs. I started well and carried on,” said Gilchrist, who hit Praveen Kumar for three fours in the first over and then played an array of strokes that fetched him five sixes and six fours.
He was declared the Man of the Match.
