Islamabad, Feb 11 (Inditop.com) Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani says that India is not ready for a dialogue on Kashmir and Pakistan is waiting for its “final response” that resumption of talks should only mean having a “composite dialogue”.
“Kashmir dispute should come under discussion in the composite dialogue between Pakistan and India and we are still awaiting the final response of India in this regard,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a function at the Capital Development Authority here.
“Composite dialogue is the only way to resolve disputes between the two nuclear-armed
nations,” Online news agency quoted Gilani as saying.
Gilani’s remarks echo those by other Pakistani leaders ever since India proposed talks between the foreign secretaries of the two countries either on Feb 18 or Feb 25, with the focus being on countering terror but leaving room open for discussing other issues of common concern.
Pakistan, on its part, has been harping on the resumption of the composite dialogue process that India suspended in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, which New Delhi blames on elements operating from across the border.
India says it is premature to talk about resuming the dialogue at the present moment and has made it clear to Pakistan that the proposed foreign secretary-level talks are part of “a step-by-step incremental approach” and that Islamabad should “do more” to address New Delhi’s concerns over cross-border terror.
