New Delhi, May 18 (Inditop.com) The sit-in by Delhi University academic council members to protest “unapproved” syllabi content ended Tuesday after a meeting was arranged with Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental.
Delhi University Teacher’s Association (DUTA) member Sanjay Kumar said the sit-in was called off after the vice chancellor sent a letter offering to discuss the issue.
“We are meeting the VC today (Tuesday). A final decision will be taken after that,” Kumar told Inditop.
A total of 19 members of the university’s academic council were staging a sit-in in the north campus since a special meeting last Thursday approved the courses to be implemented for the 2010-2011 session.
Teachers alleged that the contents of the syllabi circulated among the members were quite different from the syllabi approved by them.
Member of academic council Abha Dev Habib said the letter sent by the vice chancellor had a threatening tone. “He (VC) responded in a threatening manner. We left the venue on DUTA’s appeal.”
The university teachers have been demanding that the semester system should not be implemented without discussion and consensus.
“We want debate and discussion and we will continue our demand,” DUTA president Aditya Narayan Misra said.
