New Delhi, May 12 (Inditop.com) Designer Ravi Bajaj, who will complete 23 years in the fashion industry in December, says men’s wear is the fastest-growing industry in the world of fashion.
“You will be surprised to know that after accessories, men’s fashion wear is growing at a very fast rate. Gone are the days when men used to believe that having two pairs of shoes was enough and wanted to look good only on their wedding day,” Bajaj told Inditop in an interview.
“Today, men know what they want to wear and what looks good on them. They are ready to experiment. Disposable incomes and media exposure have kept their plates full with various options and spoilt them for choice, which they were lacking earlier,” he added.
Bajaj opened his third store in the capital Wednesday at the plush DLF Emporio mall that houses both international and national designer labels like Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Tarun Tahiliani, Malini Ramani and JJ Valaya.
Talking about why it took him so long to launch a store in the mall, Bajaj said: “There is always a right time for every thing and before doing anything I just wait and watch. Actually all credit goes to my friend and designer Suneet Varma who pushed me to open here as well.”
“Well, it definitely gives a good presence when you think of the people who come and shop here,” he added.
The store will have only saris.
“A sari is a very versatile garment and we are known for saris only. So we should display here what we are good at. Also, to be very frank, 60 percent of my sales are from saris,” Bajaj said.
“My clients feel that my saris are very light in nature and easy to manage. I guess this is the reason why they sell more,” he added.
Apart from fashion, these days his wine bar in GK-I is also keeping the designer busy. He is understanding the nuances of food and beverage (F&B) business and is learning how to sell, market and order wines.
“F&B is a very tough business. You have to learn a lot and right now I am in that stage,” Bajaj said.
