Bhopal, Feb 8 (Inditop.com) The condition of a 19-year-old tribal woman who was held captive for two days, then raped and set on fire in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district is stable, police said Monday.
The victim had moved to Jhabua district about a year ago, where she was a teacher in a missionary school. She used to visit her grandmother’s place in Barwani often, police said.
“The girl had this time come to Barwani Thursday night. When she alighted from the bus she met the stand conductor Anil Dubey whom she knew for the past few days. Dubey offered to drop her home as it was late in the evening and she agreed but instead he took her to an isolated house and held her captive,” police said.
“Dubey held her captive there for two days during which he raped the girl and later set her on fire and left her at a roadside Sunday. Those passing by who spotted the girl and rushed her to a nearby private hospital with third degree burn injuries,” Superintendent of Police (Barwani) Raghuvir Singh Meena told IANS over phone.
The accused, who is a former vice president of Shiv Sena’s local unit, has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, said the police officer.
