Agartala, April 1 (Inditop.com) A senior professor of Tripura University, Manjari Choudhury, who was also the wife of the vice-chancellor, has committed suicide, police said Thursday.

Choudhury, 60, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence Wednesday night, police officer Narayan Chandra Saha told Inditop.

‘A suicide note recovered near the body stated that Choudhury committed suicide because of some incurable diseases,’ he said.

He added: ‘She might have killed herself out of depression. One of her sons went missing from Andhra Pradesh in June 1999. We are questioning her brothers and relatives.’

Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Arunoday Saha told police that his wife had been ill for some years and had attempted suicide by setting herself on fire a few years back.

Choudhury was the dean and head of department of the arts and commerce departments.
