Chandigarh, July 3 (IANS) Cases have been registered against 32 Haryana officials for irregularities in distribution of social security pensions, a minister said here Sunday.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Geeta Bhukal warned that officers who deliberately delay disbursement of social security pensions to beneficiaries will not be spared.

She said that the motive behind distribution of various pensions through banks was to ensure transparency and curb manipulation in distribution.

‘Under the new system, pension would be deposited in bank accounts of the beneficiaries by 10th of each month. Cases will be registered against officers who delay pension disbursement,’ Bhukkal said.

Bhukkal said that bank accounts of the beneficiaries of various social security pensions had already been opened in 16 districts of the state.

‘Arrangements for opening bank accounts have also been made by the government as the representatives of the banks would reach the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries would have to make at least one transaction in a period of 60 days to keep the account active,’ she added.

Reacting to reports of people not getting pensions, the minister said: ‘The issue of delay in pension was being raised by those people who are getting bogus pension. Such people are getting pension beyond the set norms and they do not want to get their pension through bank accounts.’

The Haryana government’s social security schemes include old age pension and widow pension, among others.
