New Delhi, Dec 8 (Inditop.com) The third phase of the Jharkhand assembly elections Tuesday witnessed 56 percent voter turnout, while two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed in a Maoist attack, the Election Commission said here.

“Voter turnout till 3 p.m. was approximately 56 percent,” said a statement issued by the poll panel here.

The poll panel said that BSF personnel were fired upon by Maoists in Shikaripara on the Shikaripara-Rampurhat highway in Dumka district.

“Two BSF jawans died in the incident. There has been no other incident reported so far,” it said.

Polling was held in 11 assembly constituencies Tuesday with 239 candidates in the fray. Of the total candidates, 16 were women.

The 25,41,042 electorate comprised 13,57,894 men and 11,83,148 women.

Elections were held in 3,396 polling stations, while 6,814 EVMs were used.

“In this phase, 171 video cameras and 58 digital cameras were deployed,” the statement said.
