Patna, July 9 (IANS) In a suspected case of honour killing, a woman was killed by her brother on Thursday in Bihar a day after she married her lover in a court.
The shocking incident took place in Shekhpura district’s Kasibigha village when Kiran Kumari – in her early 20s – was attacked by her brother with an axe, a police officer said.
“Kiran’s brother repeatedly hit her with an axe and she died on the spot,” the officer said, adding that the brother was opposed to her love marriage.
Kiran married her boyfriend in a local court on Wednesday against the wishes of her family. Police said the accused and his other family members were on the run.
Kiran’s brother had threatened to kill the sister to protect his family’s “honour”, police added.
