New Delhi, Feb 13 (IANS) The AAP government did not introduce the Jan Lokpal bill on the first day of the Delhi assembly session Thursday as it wanted to circulate the draft to all the legislators, said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“We did not introduce the bill today as we wanted the copy of the bill to be seen by all the MLAs (legislators). We will table it tomorrow (Friday),” he told reporters.
The first day of the session specially convened to pass the anti-graft legislation saw a stormy start with BJP and Congress repeatedly disrupted the proceedings leading to the house’s adjournment by Speaker M.S. Dhir.
The Congress – which props up the government from outside – has opposed the bill since the AAP government did not get the central government’s nod before it is introduced in the assembly.
Kejriwal has threatened to resign if the government is not able to push through the anti-corruption bill.
Despite the union law ministry’s opinion late Wednesday that the central government’s prior consent is mandatory for introducing Jan Lokpal bill in the assembly, the AAP government was firm on its stand of bringing it in the assembly.
