New Delhi, June 26 (IANS) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) chief Mukesh Kumar Meena was accused of money laundering and a probe was ordered against him in May.

Meena was appointed as ACB chief by Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on June 8 superseding Additional Commissioner S.S. Yadav. The Delhi government has objected to the appointment of Meena.
“Mukesh Kumar Meena was involved in Hawala scam along with the curtain scam. A probe against him in Hawala scam was ordered on May 1. The ACB is probing the matter,” Sisodia said.
He said his government has written to the union home ministry over corruption complaints against Meena.
“Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sent a note to the union home minister in connection with how Meena had been involved in Hawala and curtain scams.”
“I hope the home minister will take cognisance of the matter and take appropriate action….”
Addressing the Delhi assembly, Sisodia raised serious concern over appointment of Meena as ACB chief by Jung on the directions of the central government.
“I am surprised how a person against whom a probe is underway in the ACB can be made its chief. It seems that Hawala operators are behind Meena’s appointment as ACB chief. He was appointed deliberately to a post which does not even exist in ACB,” he said.
Besides the issue of suicide threat given by additional commissioner of police S.S. Yadav — whom the AAP government considers as the ACB chief — was also raised in the house.
The AAP MLAs unanimously said Yadav was being harassed by the senior officer and demanded strict action against the officer in this connection.
“S.S. Yadav is an honest officer and has done a commendable job in curbing corruption in the national capital through the ACB. He is now being harassed by the senior officer that is why he threatened to commit suicide,” AAP MLA Alka Lamba said.
Lamba demanded that the assembly take cognisance of the matter and bring a resolution to remove Meena from his current post of ACB chief.
