Shimla, Feb 25 (Inditop.com) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, who is completing his tenure as a Rajya Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh in April, may have to seek his re-election from some Congress-ruled state, a party leader said here Thursday.
“Anand Sharma would seek re-election from some other state as the Congress does not have the majority in the state assembly,” Himachal state Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur told reporters here. The Congress has 23 members in the 68-member state assembly.
“Party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will decide from which Congress-ruled state Sharma would re-contest,” Thakur said in response to a question.
The seat is falling vacant April 2 and the election will be held March 26.
According to party sources, Sharma could seek re-election from Haryana where the Congress is in power. Even Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is keen that Sharma should contest now from his state, they said.
