New Delhi, Jan 1 (IANS) Spiritual guru Asaram was Thursday taken to the AIIMS for medical checkup after the Supreme court ordered his examination to ascertain if he required any surgery for his neurological ailment.
“Asaram was brought to AIIMS around 2.00 p.m. today (Thursday) and will undergo a checkup at the O.P.D itself. No decision on admitting him has been taken till now,” Amit Gupta, spokesperson, AIIMS told IANS.
Earlier, Asaram moved a bail application in the apex court and submitted a medical report by a Jodhpur hospital, which recommended a surgery, stating that he was suffering from trigeminal neuralgia.
Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe pain in the face or the forehead of the patient afflicted with it.
The court then sought a fresh medical report from a medical board of AIIMS, rejecting his bail plea.
Gupta said the checkup will be done by a group of doctors led by Shashank Sharad Kale, associate professor of neurosurgery at AIIMS.
The 72-year-old Asaram was arrested in September 2013 after a 16-year-old girl lodged a police complaint Aug 20, 2013, accusing him of sexually assaulting her at his ashram in Jodhpur.
