Kolkata, April 1 (IANS) A police complaint has been lodged against Bollywood singer and BJP candidate from West Bengal’s Asansol Babul Supriyo alleging he had entered a temple in a “drunken state”. Terming it “dirty politics”, Supriyo asserted he was a teetotaller.

The complaint has been filed by the Asansol Citizens’ Forum after a post saying “drinking vodka” appeared on the singer’s Facebook account Sunday hours before he visited a temple while campaigning.
“We have received a complaint in this regard and are looking into it,” an officer of Asansol (South) police station said Tuesday before which the complaint was filed.
Supriyo has rubbished the allegations and also claimed that the Facebook post was not made by him, rather it “mysteriously appeared” after he had left his mobile phone unattended.
He accused his rivals of playing “dirty politics” who are jealous of his “stupendous public response”.
“I am a teetotaller I don’t even drink Wine or Beer!! I had left my phone for charging… someone must have played a prank and typed that message here,” the singer commented on the Facebook post.
“It is utterly nauseating to say the least and while I really don’t feel the need to say anything in my defence. Being a true teetotaller, all I can say is that, such dirty politics is what that has made politics a dirty word in India,” Supriyo told IANS reacting to the complaint.
“The only logical explanation that comes to my mind towards such a ridiculous accusation is that, the opposition must be scared and are feeling the heat of the stupendous public response and showering of love that I have enjoyed in Asansol, something that was for everyone to witness in the last few days,” he added.
