Kolkata, July 30 (IANS) A seven-year-old boy, who was earlier seriously injured after a “ball” he was playing with turned out to be a bomb and exploded, succumbed to his injuries Tuesday at a city hospital, an official said.
“Abdul Aziz died of his injuries Tuesday morning,” said an official of the government-run SSKM hospital where the child was battling for his life for the past few days.
Aziz, along with two other children, was injured July 22 after a bomb exploded near them while they were playing in the courtyard of the house of a Trinamool Congress candidate at Lalutola village in Malda district.
While the family members claimed that bombs were hurled at the house, one of the child victims said they saw some “balls” while playing when they opened the door of the house.
“One of my friend, Aziz said these are bombs. Then they exploded,” one of the injured Mamud Sheikh had said after the incident.
Aziz was admitted to SSKM hospital July 23. The other two injured children are recuperating from their injuries.
The minor is the latest victim of poll-related violence during the recently concluded West Bengal panchayat polls which so far have claimed at least 26 lives.
