Kolkata, Aug 19 (IANS) West Bengal’s ruling Left Front Chairman Biman Bose Thursday expressed doubts over whether the voice heard in the audio tape proposing a three-month truce to the central government and made available to media houses belonged to top Maoist leader Koteshwar Rao alias Kishanji.
‘I have doubts whether the voice in the audio tape is of that of Kishanji or someone else. Earlier I have heard Kishanji’s voice. But the voice I hear does not seem to be the same. But the experts will be in a better position to comment on it,’ Bose told media persons here.
In the audio tape, purporting to have the voice of Kishanji, the Maoist guerrillas declared Tuesday night they were ready for talks provided a three-month truce was declared.
The outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist also proposed social activist Swami Agnivesh or Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee as the possible mediators between the government and the rebels.
The truce offer came only two days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Independence Day address Aug 15 calling upon the Maoists to talk to the government.
