Lucknow, Jan 1 (IANS) The second phase of the National Census through biometric registration began in Uttar Pradesh Tuesday, with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his family registering for the National Population Register (NPR).
The chief minister called it a significant day and hoped that it would be completed within the stipulated timelines.
In the second phase of the NPR, everyone over the age of five will be included via the biometric process comprising photograph, finger prints and retinal impressions.
Yadav appealed to people to get their names registered.
To register for the NCR, people should carry their ID cards such as ration cards, voters ID card, PAN card or driving licence.
In the first phase of the national Census 2011 between May 16 and June 30, 2010, details of people were collected for the NPR.
