New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) The Congress Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of levelling allegations against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the 2G spectrum verdict to serve “its narrow political interests”.
“We want to remind the BJP that the Supreme Court had made its verdict on the deeds based on the policy formulated by their (NDA) government,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhhvi told reporters here.
He said the charge that the two leaders knew about the 2G spectrum scam – which is estimated to have caused huge loss to the national exchequer – was baseless.
Singhvi said former communications minister A. Raja was jailed for “his individual act of changing the policy three times” and not for implementing the policy.
“We are neither convicting or acquitting Raja,” Singhvi said, adding it was for the court to do anything on that aspect.
Singhvi said the allegations of bribery against former aviation minister Praful Patel by a Canadian firm have surfaced in the media four years after the incidence, and raise several doubts about the charges.
