Lucknow, April 30 (IANS) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and parliamentarian Lalji Tandon Saturday challenged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take action against the Uttar Pradesh government for ‘misusing centre’s funds meant for the development of the state, particularly the Bundelkhand region’.
‘On innumerable occasions, the Congress has accused the Mayawati government of committing financial irregularities in the central government-sponsored welfare schemes. I am surprised why no action has been taken yet,’ Tandon told reporters here.
‘I challenge the prime minister to take action against all those in the state government who are involved in the financial anomalies,’ he said.
‘If the central government is really concerned about development of Uttar Pradesh and the Bundelkhand region, it should immediately constitute an enquiry committee to probe the irregularities and send the culprits to jail,’ he added.
Attacking Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Tandon said: ‘His (Rahul Gandhi) recent act of seeking information about the status of central government’s schemes in the state under the (right to information) RTI was merely a drama.’
‘Rahul Gandhi could have got all the information he sought under th RTI from the investigating agencies that function under the central government,’ said Tandon.
