Nuh (Haryana), March 31 (IANS) Calling the coming Lok Sabha election a “tough test” for the nation, Congress president Sonia Gandhi Monday urged people not to get “influenced by the false promises” made by BJP leaders and vote wisely.
“This (election) is a tough test for the country, one which has never taken place before. Do not get influenced by BJP leaders who make false promises and shed crocodile tears…. chose wisely and vote for Congress,” Gandhi said while addressing a rally here.
“They (BJP) indulge in politics of hate and its leaders have their eyes set on the post of the country’s prime minister,” she added in a veiled attack on Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Gandhi said India had made the most progress in the ten years of United Progressive Alliance rule and the development work is out there for everyone to see.
Questioning BJP’s secular credentials, the Congress chief said her party’s ideology was not based on religion or caste and therefore only it can provide a government which looks after all the religions.
“People whose hearts are filled with hatred cannot form a stable government and cannot take the nation forward… we are struggling for an India which is secular and gives equal rights to all its citizens instead of concentrating power in the hands of a few,” she said.
