Ranchi, Nov 30 (IANS) Mangal Singh Soy, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Kharsawan constituency in Jharkhand, Tuesday resigned from the assembly to enable Chief Minister Arjun Munda contest an election and become a member of the house.
Soy handed over his resignation to Jharkhand Speaker C.P. Singh.
‘I have quit the assembly seat to facilitate the chief minister’s election to the assembly,’ Soy told reporters.
Sources said the speaker accepted the resignation. The assembly secretariat would soon ask the Election Commission to hold an election in Kharsawan.
Munda was earlier elected thrice from the constituency. He did not contest the 2009 assembly poll in 2009 as he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jamshedpur.
Munda, who became the chief minister Sep 11, has to become a member of the assembly within six months of assuming office.
