New Delhi, April 15 (Inditop.com) Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor, embroiled in a controversy over his alleged meddling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, should not be blamed for being in the news for the wrong reasons, Congress said Thursday.

Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told media persons here that Tharoor was once India’s candidate for UN secretary general’s post and he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram.

“So, don’t blame him for always being in the news for the wrong reasons,” he added.

He said that the party would respond once it gets all facts relating to the minister’s role in the Kochi IPL row.

Dismissing the demand of the opposition parties that Tharoor should resign till his name is cleared in the controversy, Ahmed said: “They are political parties and they are free to demand anything under the sun.”
