Bhopal, Jan 29 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Sunday demanded that India should boycott the London Olympics if Dow Chemicals remains a sponsor.
“India is now an economic superpower and not a weak country. Either Dow should be removed from the sponsorship of Olympics or India should not participate,” he told reporters here.
“How can India remain silent on the issue? The centre should talk clearly to them,” Chouhan said, referring to the London organisers.
Chouhan has come out strongly against Dow, which bought over Union Carbide India Ltd, which killed thousands in Bhopal in December 1984 when poisonous gas leaked from its pesticide plant.
Dow’s sponsorship of the London Olympics has become a major controversy across the world.
