Lucknow, July 2 (IANS) Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Saturday alleged the Mayawati government got deputy chief medical officer Y.S. Sachan killed as it feared he could name some of its ministers and officials involved in financial bunglings in the health department.

‘Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leaders, including ministers and other senior government officials, got the deputy chief medical officer eliminated in the jail….It’s really surprising and shocking that the killing is taking place inside jail,’ Mulayam Singh told a gathering here.

He claimed athat as the BSP government feared Sachan could spell trouble by exposing its ministers and partymen linked in financial irregularities of the National Rural Health Mission (NHRM), ‘it decided to get him silenced a day before he was to appear before the court’.

Sachan was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a Lucknow district jail toilet June 22 evening.

Sachan was arrested in April on charges of embezzlement in the NRHM projects in Uttar Pradesh.

His autopsy report mentioned ‘excessive bleeding’ as the cause of death and talked about nine wounds on his body, yet the officials rule out murder.

Accusing the BSP of giving patronage to criminals and anti-social elements, Mulayam Singh said, ‘Law and order conditions in the state are turning from bad to worse. No concrete action is being taken by the government to contain crime, particularly atrocities on woman.’
