Lucknow, May 15 (Inditop.com) The Uttar Pradesh government Saturday initiated a probe against ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Jitendra Singh who has been accused of threatening the traders of a market complex here, official sources said.
The probe was ordered in connection with the police complaint lodged by the traders of the Sausheel Market complex against Singh, who represents the Bikapur assembly seat in Faizabad district in the state, they added.
According to the traders, the complex is owned by one V.K. Tiwari, who is absconding in a case of fraud for over last 15 years.
In 1996, the building was sealed, but they approached the Supreme Court and got a stay. Traders allege that Tiwari wants to sell off the complex and has connived with the legislator for evacuating them.
Singh, along with his armed supporters, had stormed the Sausheel Complex along the Gokhale Marg and threatened the occupants of dire consequences if they did not vacate the premises within a few days.
Though the incident took place May 8, the complaint against Singh was lodged Thursday. Later, the traders wrote to Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati, seeking action against Singh.
“We have full faith in Mayawati and believe that she would take stern action against her party legislator,” M.C. Srivastava, an occupant of the complex, told reporters Saturday.
“Mayawati has recently launched an operation to free her party from criminals. We firmly believe she will show the door to the legislator also for harassing us,” he added.
