Mumbai, Jan 5 (Inditop.com) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will shortly file a charge sheet against former union minister Buta Singh’s son Sarabjot alias Sweety Singh in a corruption case, a top official said here Tuesday.

“We shall file the charge sheet against Sarabjot and co-accused Anup Bedi within five days for entering into a criminal conspiracy under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” said CBI (Western Region) director Rishiraj Singh.

However, officials declined to comment whether the witness statement of Buta Singh, at present chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, recorded by the investigating agency after the scam broke out would form a part of the charge sheet.

On July 31 last year, the CBI nabbed Sarabjot for allegedly demanding gratification of Rs.10 million from Ramrao Patil, a contractor based in Nashik.

The bribe was demanded ostensibly to settle a case pending against Patil before the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

Rushing to support son Sarabjot, Buta Singh, who was former union home minister, had claimed that his son was being framed in the case.

Besides Sarabjot, the CBI had nabbed three others in connection with the same case – Anup Kumar Bedi, Madan Singh Solanki and Dukh Singh Chauhan.

When asked specifically when the CBI planned to file the charge sheet, Rishiraj Singh said: “Very soon, we shall keep the media informed.”

To a query whether two of the accused — Solanki and Chauhan — would be shown as approvers, he said that “you will come to know everything when we file the charge sheet”. He declined to elaborate.
