Raipur, July 20 (Inditop.com) The Chhattisgarh assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on the first day of the monsoon session Monday and was later adjourned for the day as opposition Congress members demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh over the July 12 Maoist attack.
The 38 Congress legislators in the 90-member house displayed paper-sheets bearing slogans such as “Raman Singh Istifa Do” (Raman Singh, Resign) and “Yeh Sarkar Nikammi Hai” (This government is incompetent).
The house was first adjourned for five minutes amid vociferous slogans by Congress members who blamed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the July 12 Maoist attack in which 29 policemen, including a superintendent of police (SP), were killed in Rajnandgaon district. It was adjourned for another 15 minutes when Congress members continued shouting slogans.
Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik adjourned the house for the day when Congress members kept on insisting upon the chief minister’s resignation and refused to accept his offer for a debate on the Maoist attack in the house.
Amid the Congress slogans, Raman Singh was heard saying that he was ready for a discussion in the house on the Maoist attack and would reply to the Congress charges.
However, leader of the opposition Ravindra Choubey told media persons at the assembly complex after adjournment: “Congress will not allow the house to transact business till Chief Minister Raman Singh, who is heading an incompetent government, resigns.”
The ruling BJP has 49 legislators in the house while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has two members. One seat is lying vacant. The house is scheduled to have 10 sittings till July 31.
