Jaipur, June 18 (IANS) The Rajasthan unit of the BJP on Thursday accused the Congress of indulging in “petty politics” over the alleged help Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje extended to former IPL chief Lalit Modi.

Lalit Modi has claimed that Raje signed a statement in support of his immigration application to the United Kingdom government in his presence in London.
Accusing the Congress of playing politics over a “non-issue”, state BJP chief Ashok Parnami said the allegation against Raje was “totally baseless”.
Parnami, a legislator from Jaipur city, defended her son Dushyant Singh also, adding that the investment in Dushyant’s company by the former Indian Premier League chief was a “purely business dealing between Dushyant and Lalit Modi”.
“Raje ji has already given a statement on the issue,” he said while talking to the media.
Parnami also denied media reports that some party legislators went to Delhi to meet BJP president Amit Shah on the issue.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister’s media advisor issued a statement that neither had the MLAs gone to meet Shah nor the chief minister sought time for a meeting with the BJP national president.
Meanwhile, state Health Minister Rajendra Rathore also termed the whole issue “petty”, and said there was “no question of the chief minister’s resignation”.
“She has already clarified. Why should or would she resign? She clarified by issuing a statement on Tuesday. We all (BJP legislature party) are behind her,” Rathore said at a press conference here.
In a press note issued by her media advisor, Raje on Tuesday said: “I know the family of Lalit Modi. But I am not aware which document the people are talking about.”
Meanwhile, the state Congress organised a road show in the city to demand the chief minister’s resignation.
State Congress chief Sachin Pilot has demanded her resignation and an inquiry into the issue.
