Itanagar, March 31 (IANS) BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Monday accused the Congress of making false promises to the people.
Addressing an election rally here, Modi said the Congress promised five years ago, when it won the last parliamentary election, to bring down food prices and check inflation.
Both, he said, had not been done.
“They (Congress) say ‘we do what we say’. The Congress in 2009 promised to bring down price rise. Did prices go down?” Modi asked loudly, only to get a roaring “no” as the response from the crowd.
He then asked, equally loudly, inflation had gone up. The crowd responded with a thunderous “yes”.
Modi said that the Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha election deceived people with more false promises.
“The Congress ‘ghoshana patra’ is actually a ‘dhokha patra’,” he said.
Both Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are focussing now on the northeast, which will herlad the first round of staggered Lok Sabha election beginning April 7.
Five of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam and one of the two in Tripura will see polling April 7.
