Shimla, April 7 (Inditop.com) Sporting black bands inside the Himachal Pradesh assembly, the opposition Congress members Wednesday staged a silent protest over the registration of a criminal case against one of the party legislators.

During the Question Hour, Speaker Tulsi Ram noticed that Congress legislator G.S. Bali was wearing a black band on one of his arms. He requested him to remove the black band as this was not according to the decorum of the house.

At this, other agitated Congress legislators got up and said such a situation was created due to the registration of a case against a member of the house and that too on the complaint of a government functionary.

Tulsi Ram tried to pacify them but the legislators wore the bands on their mouths to express their resentment and decided not to participate in the question hour and other proceedings of the house.

After the question hour and presenting of reports in the house, Tulsi Ram adjourned the house for the day.

Congress legislator Subhash Chand Manglet from Chopal in Shimla district was Monday booked for intimidating a sub-divisional magistrate and obstructing him from discharging his duties.

Later, Tulsi Ram told mediapersons: “It was an unprecedented protest in the history of the state assembly. I will try to reconcile with the opposition members so that the last few days of the budget session could pass off peacefully.”
