New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) The Congress Friday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not taking a stand on the Lokpal bill or on the issue of the inclusion of prime minister under the Lokpal’s purview.
Talking to reporters here, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the main opposition party was interested in only attacking the government and not in the Lokpal.
‘BJP is being childish and hypocritical on the Lokpal Bill. It is strange that a party which calls itself a responsible national party says they have no stand, neither on our Lokpal bill or civil society’s alternate version, nor do they have a stand of their own,’ he said.
‘It is an irresponsible party not interested in issues of corruption or Lokpal, they are interested only in desperate games to get political power through the back-door, through undemocratic means, after their democratic rejection by the people,’ he said.
Civil society members from the Lokpal bill drafting committee met BJP leaders Friday and discussed their version of the Lokpal bill. The BJP later said that a decision on the party’s stand will be taken after a meeting with BJP and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders.
‘BJP criticises for the sake of criticising. Other than attacking and criticising us, did the BJP ever give a single concrete suggestion,’ asked Singvi.
