Lucknow, May 26 (IANS) The Congress would contest the forthcoming Panchayat polls with its full might, party leader Madhusudan Mistry said here on Tuesday.

Interacting with party workers and district Congress presidents, Mistry said they lost the Lok Sabha elections but not their self-confidence.
Lauding party workers for launching an all out offensive against the Narendra Modi government’s proposed Land Acquisition Bill, the party general secretary said party workers need not lose hope as the future was bright for the party.
Claiming that all the development in the country post-Independence was a gift to the nation by Congress, the senior Congress leader slammed prime minister Modi for claiming all that was good in the country as his doing in the past one year.
“The Modi government has done nothing for the country,” he said while pointing out that a rail mishap had taken place when Modi took over as prime minister and another one had coincided with a train accident in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh on the first anniversary of the NDA government.
Saying that he was unaware if the victims of these rail accidents had got any ex-gratia or not, Mistry, a close aide of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, also said the hapless farmers in the country had not been given any financial assistance after their crops were devastated by unseasonal rains and hail storms.
He declared that the Congress would launch a nationwide agitation against Modi for the government’s anti-farmer policies and would take the protest to every village in the country.
Addressing the function, state president of the Congress, Nirmal Khatri said the party would take the failures of the Modi government to block-level by June 13.
The party would escalate the protests further by June 30 at all panchayat levels. A detailed schedule of the agitational programmes, Khatri added, would soon be announced.
