Kolkata, May 9 (Inditop) Days ahead of Lok Sabha polls here, the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Saturday accused opposition Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee of faring poorly as an MP and lacking any political philosophy.
Addressing a meet-the-press programme at the Kolkata Press Club here, CPI-M politburo member Biman Bose pointed out that Banerjee had mostly stayed away from the sessions of the outgoing Lok Sabha.
“She never attended zero hour or question hour. An MP is expected to attend parliament, ask questions and raise issues which are in people’s interest. But she did not do it. She chose to remain absent from the Lok Sabha during most of its sittings,” Bose said.
The four seats of greater Kolkata are slated to go to the hustings in the last phase of the staggered polls May 13. Banerjee is a candidate from one of these, the Kolkata South seat. She has won five times from the constituency.
About the Trinamool Congress, Bose said: “They don’t have any political views. Their manifesto does not mention national issues. They’re only busy spreading canards.
“And the Trinamool supremo only says ‘I, me and myself’.”
Bose, however, did not hazard a guess on whether the Left Front would be able to retain its tally of 35 seats in the previous Lok Sabha, out of 42 in West Bengal.
“The Trinamool supremo has said the Left will get nil seats in West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala. So after she has given her dictum, why are my journalist friends asking these question?” Bose said.
Asked whether the Left would be able to retain its strength in the ongoing polls, he replied: “I can tell you, we are fighting to win all the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.”
