Kolkata, June 23 (Inditop.com) A day after the centre banned the leftwing radical outfit, Communist Party of India-Maoist, its spokesman Gour Chakraborty was arrested Tuesday night by the city police.

Police Commissioner Goutam Chakraborty told IANS that Gour Chakraborty was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He will be presented in court Wednesday.

Gour Chakraborty was detained Tuesday evening for interrogation by the city police detective department from the Park Street area here as he was coming out from a television channel office.

He was interrogated at the Special Branch office on Lord Sinha road in south Kolkata. He was then arrested.

Earlier, Gour Chakraborty had told the media that the Maoists were willing to talk to the central and state government, but only in the presence of the “intelligentsia”.

“If the operations in Lalgarh are stopped and a ceasefire declared, then we are willing to talk to the central and state governments. But the intelligentsia will have to take the initiative. And of course, representatives of the intelligentsia have to be present during the talks,” he had said.
