Bhopal, April 21 (Inditop) Crackdown on illicit liquor and arms has been launched and weapon licences suspended to ensure free and fair polls in Madhya Pradesh where voting for 13 Lok Sabha constituencies will be held Thursday.
Over 15,000 troopers of paramilitary Special Armed Force (SAF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be deployed across the state during the polls, state police chief S.K. Rout said Tuesday.
Police have recovered over 95,000 litres of illicit liquor and over 225,000 licensed weapons have been deposited in police stations and with arms dealers, Rout said. More than 250 arms licences have been cancelled.
Police have also detained over 10,000 suspected criminals and 360 “notorious criminals” have been temporarily expelled from their home districts as a safety measure ahead of the polls, according to police sources.
The police have been asked to keep strict vigil on the state borders to stop any movement of criminals from neighbouring states.
