New Delhi, July 21 (IANS) The Congress Wednesday said a decision on union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai is a ‘governance issue’, after External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna commented that Pillai’s statement on the involvement of ISI in the 26/11 attack could have waited till after the talks with Pakistan.
‘It is essentially a governance issue. If there has to be a reaction, it has to be from the government,’ party spokesperson Manish Tewari told IANS.
Krishna in an interview to CNN-IBN editor-in-chief Rajdeep Sardesai said: ‘Pillai could have waited till I came back to issue a statement. Perhaps it would have been wiser if that statement had not been made just on the eve of my visit.’
Ahead of the talks, Pillai said in interview the Indian Express that the interrogation of Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley revelations showed involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in planning the Mumbai carnage.
After his talks with Krishna July 15, Qureshi had said at a joint press conference that the remarks by Pillai were ‘uncalled for’ and did not serve any purpose.
