Thiruvananthapuram, April 16 (Inditop.com) Kerala Governor R.S. Gavai has written to the state government over allegations by the opposition that his address to the assembly in February had not been approved by the cabinet as required.
Gavai has written to chief secretary Rudra Gangadharan.
The governor decided to seek clarification after a group of opposition legislators April 7 met him to point out what they called the serious lapse on the part of the cabinet. They said it had failed to approve the address before Gavai read it out Feb 24 in the assembly.
Senior opposition legislator Joseph M. Puthuserry (Kerala Congress-M) says he got details from the office of the chief secretary under the Right to Information Act.
It said the cabinet that met Feb 17 did not take up the clearing of the governor’s address. The Congress-led opposition pointed out to the governor that this was a constitutional impropriety.
Last week Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan had denied that any such thing happened.
